The cap colour changes quite significantly with age and can be dependent on the weather. This characteristic is the origin of the common name.

5 - 10 cms tall.
June - November.
Edible but not great. Best when Caps are fried with the stems discarded.
When picking any fungus for consumption, caution should be exercised at all times.
