 Damp places near ponds or marshes or in long grass.
They hibernate from late October to January.

Tadpoles:  Mainly herbivorous.
Juveniles: Feed on invertebrates both on land and in water.
Adults: Feed on land only. Insects (especially flies), snails, slugs and worms.
