Not all authorities list this as an edible mushroom, despite its sombre appearance the Goblet mushroom is widely reputed to be quite good to eat provided it is thoroughly cooked. (The stems are very tough and should certainly be discarded.) There are, however, reports of some people suffering adverse reactions after eating this species, and so if trying them for the first time only a very small portion should be consumed.

When picking any fungus for consumption, caution should be exercised at all times.
