Mainly beneath conifers but occasionally with beech trees.
4 - 10 cms.
10 - 15 diameter, 4 - 8 cms tall.
August - November.
Edible if cooked thoroughly; however, because of its soggy texture this bolete is not highly regarded.
These mushrooms have tubes and pores instead of gills beneath their caps. 

When picking any fungus for consumption, caution should be exercised at all times.
