Occur either scattered or in groups on damp rotten wood.
Colour is quite variable, ranging from pinkish grey to yellowish brown or greenish black, with mature individuals tending towards the darker end
June  - November.
While not known to be toxic, it's best to avoid eating it as its edibility is uncertain and can cause gastrointestinal discomfort.  
They may ooze a pink "paste" if the outer wall is broken before maturity.

When picking any fungus for consumption, caution should be exercised at all times.
