Unknown until 2003, this fieldcap has since become fairly common in southern England, where its spread has been entirely due to the practice of mulching flowerbeds using wood chippings. There is at least one report of it being eaten with no discernible adverse effects.  In the long term, it's safety is unknown, and so it is not recommend for gathering and eating.

When picking any fungus for consumption, caution should be exercised at all times.
