Associated with buried wood and is found in grassland, meadows and disturbed ground.
3 - 7 cms diameter.
7 - 17 cms long.
Spring - early winter
Edible, but consuming this fungus within a few hours of consuming alcohol results in  "disulfiram syndrome". Disulfiram is a drug used to treat alcoholism by inducing hangover symptoms immediatly after alcohol is consumed.

When picking any fungus for consumption, caution should be exercised at all times.
