Primarily by streams that are unlikely to freeze in winter.
The European mink has both a permanent burrow and temporary shelters.
The former is used all year except during floods, and is located no
more than 6–10 metres from the water's edge. The burrow often
consists of 1-2
passages 8–10 cm in diameter and 1.40–1.50 metres in
length, leading to a nest chamber measuring 48 × 55 cm. Nesting
chambers are lined with straw, moss, and bird feathers.
Voles, frogs, fish, crustaceans and insects.
Males measure 37–43 cm in length, while females measure
35–40 cm. Tail length is 15–19 cm in males and 15–18
cm in females.
