This flower has long been associated with love. A German knight walking
with his beloved leaned over a river bank to pick a bunch of flowers when
he over-balanced and fell in. Weighed down by his heavy armour he drowned while imploring his lover Vergisz mein nicht - forget me not!  In France it became ne m'obliez pas and aimez-moi (love me). During the Middle Ages a lover would wear the flower as a symbol of his/her fidelity.
