Near hedgerows or on woodland edges.
Some up to 45 cms, although they can be much smaller leading to mis-identification
2 - 3 cms diameter, 4 - 6 cms tall.
August - Early November.
Generally considered edible although its flavour is said to be far from great.  It is advisable to try a small portion initially, as some people suffer adverse reactions that can include stomach pains, diarrhoea and sweating.

When picking any fungus for consumption, caution should be exercised at all times.
