A plant of western Ireland, western Scotland, the Hebrides and the The Shetland Isles. Found on machair and damp pasture.
June - August.
15 - 60 cms.
A sub species of Common Spotted Orchid particular to the North West Of Scotland. Some botanists do not consider it sufficiently distinct to warrant subspecific status, and treat it as a botanical variety. Conversely, others, such as Pierre Delforge, rank it a species in its own right.
