The leaves of this plant once were eaten as a vegetable.
The scientific name means "golden spleen" as the
shape of the leaves were thought to be like that of the
spleen. This also led to the belief that illnesses of the
spleen could be treated by eating the leaves or by drinking
infusions made from the leaves.
