February - August. 8-20 mm diameter, with five white, candy-striped, or pink petals.
Native to Siberia and Western North America. Introduced to UK in 18th Century. The white leaved subspecies, is known as the Stewarton Flower, due to its local abundance in that part of North Ayrshire, Scotland. The white variety also predominates in Templeton Woods Dundee with the Pink variety
predominating elsewhere in Scotland.
