It hybridises with both Mentha Arvensis ( Corn Mint) and Mentha Spicata ( Spearmint ) to give the tri-species hybrid Mentha Smithiana. The mints contain many hybrids, like apple mint, ginger mint and even eau-de-cologne mint. They are used extensivley in perfumery and as flavourings in jelly, tea, sweets, liqueurs, chewing gum, toothpaste and medicine. Many hybrids have Water Mint as one of their parents.
